Chico the resident cat at the Robert's Bank Seafarers Centre became a familiar sight to many seafarers as they found comfort in his presence with no animals onboard. Many a photo of Chico has been sent home by seafarers. On returning to Roberts Bank seafarers would ask after Chico often years later. Chico was known for following seafarers to their ship and he would lounge across the tables at the centre or on the floor making his presence felt.
Chico was great at keeping the mice away and he made it clear to all that he would tolerate no nonsense and was the boss as a collar made for him read ' King of the Delta Port'. Chico also endeared himself to others who worked in the terminal wandering around looking for the next best meal or a comfy chair.
Chico in recent years received lots of love from staff at the Roberts Bank Centre who gave him a better quality of life in latter years.
It can't be understated the different Chico made to the seafarers and life at the Roberts Bank Centre for two legged or four we all have a role there in caring for the seafarers. Archie at the Waterfront Seafarers Centre says farewell. Happy hunting Chico.
