Being able to go onboard a ship and meet the crew, chat over a coffee or tea and share stories is a privilege. On one recent visit to a ship I spoke with the Chief Engineer about being a seafarer and he said one thing I like about being a seafarer is not being exposed to the same extent as onshore to social media and advertising and so be able to clear my head and I thought what an experience, that sounds fantastic.
It seems that wherever we turn someone is trying to sell or tell us something, the constant noise that is hard to escape and yet it is something we need to walk away from, put down so that we can as the seafarer said clear our heads.
I am not suggesting that we all become hermits but I am saying that we need to consider our health and get in touch not with a screen but with that which brings you peace of mind, one such place for me is in nature whether with my head in the soil planting seeds or basking in the silence of the forest.
