All of us at Mission to Seafarers, Vancouver would like to extend our prayers to the family of Chaplain Ernst DeVries who died last weekend.
As a Port Chaplain I was privileged to work with Ernst in the Port of Vancouver caring for the seafarers. Ernst’s presence was always felt in a room due to his stature and his hearty laugh. Ernst would go the extra mile to help others and I recall him being asked by crew on a ship for a paddling pool and they got it, others received such
as whole turkeys and vegetables.
We give thanks for Ernst example of faithful service, in walking with our Lord all the days of his life and for enriching the lives of others including the countless seafarers.
“Lord grant to Ernst a safe lodging, a holy rest and peace at the last and strengthen those who are bereaved esp. his much loved family to meet the days ahead thankful of your faithfulness in the past and waiting for a joyful reunion with those they love. Amen”
