It is always my privilege to lead the act of remembrance at Sailor’s Point in Lonsdale by the BCIT Marine Institute.
There is a particular focus on seafarers and it draws together people from the maritime community.
What we are doing as we gather is an ‘act’ of remembrance in that we are recognizing and responding to the sacrifices of men and women past and present who combated injustice and hatred and anything that would enslave, divide and oppress.
The words ‘Lest we forget’ which we see in different places such as on the front of the city buses compel us to action, not just on Remembrance Day but every day to likewise sacrifice and strive to make the world a more just and peaceful place for all.
